Warsong Gulch and Alterac Valley battlegrounds are now available in WoW Classic. Four months after the servers went live, players can take part in one of the most iconic WoW vanilla features.
Warsong Gulch is a 10 versus 10 capture-the-flag scenario. Each team has to capture the flag three times in order to win. You will get Honor for completing the objective and also for killing enemy players. Joining a battleground in WoW Classic is different from joining one in Battle for Azeroth where you open the LFG interface and click some buttons. Classic players have to go to one of their faction’s main cities and look for a battlemaster NPC. Ask a guard and it will point you in the right direction. Talk to the NPC to join the queue.
You can also join from the battleground’s location. This is Ashenvale for the Alliance and Northern Barrens for the Horde. Players need to be at least level 10 to join this battleground. Players are matched in brackets of 10 levels. For example, there are 10-19, 20-29, and so on brackets. As you can imagine, the level imbalance is real. Max level players have a separate bracket. Alliance players get reputation with the Silverwing Sentinels. Horde players get reputation with the Warsong Outriders.
Alterac Valley is a 40 versus 40 battleground. Victory goes to the faction that kills the enemy leader. This leader is an NPC. It can be found in the headquarters that are placed on opposite ends on the map. The Alliance leader is Vanndar Stormpike. The Horde leader is Drek’Thar. This huge battleground also has PvE objectives that will help you with the victory condition.
You can capture locations such as towers and mines and you can gather resources. Each captured location and completed objective brings you one step closer to the end goal. Each leader has elite guards that can be killed as well. You can also weaken the enemy defenses by taking down their towers. This battleground is intended for players 51 and above. There is only one bracket. Once again, keep in mind that players 51-60 will be thrown into the same pot so don’t expect fair odds in one on one encounters. The objective of battlegrounds is players working together to achieve a common goal, not individual fights.
You can join by talking to the battlemaster NPC from a main city or by joining the queue from Alterac Mountains. Alliance players get reputation with the Stormpike Guard. Horde players get reputation with the Frostwolf Clan. Good luck!
